I love to read and I like lots of things. Right now I am reading Angels & Demons by Dan Brown (same guy who wrote The Da Vinchi Code). Anyway it is a page turner. I haven't read The Da Vinchi Code yet but it is up there on the list now.

So, I was wondering how many of you like to read and what you might be reading or what you would suggest as I am always looking for new authors and ideas for reading materials.

i read, but i don't really read fiction. I usually read true stories, historical books or factual books.

I am always tempted to buy fiction books, but they just end up sitting on the bookshelf unread.

My absolute favourite books are ones full of photography. I am a big fan of photography. A picture can make me smile, laugh and cry.
Photography is also the reason i seem to have piles and piles of old national geographic magz that date back like 30 years or something lol. Everytime i see them in second hand shops i buy them and put them ontop of the pile.

I seem to read alot of non-fiction books about people who went to jail. For example books on individuals who were caught smuggling drugs in Thailand and were put into Thai prisons. Also books on ordinary people who do stupid things like get drunk after a golf game and then kill someone on the road and go to prison.

I admire people who have the patience to read fiction, and i wish they were able to hold my interest.

I also read alot of these types of books. I have tons and tons of them around here. That is one reason that I am thinking of going into criminal justice. I just can't fathom ppl who commit these types of atrocities. Serial killers are one of my biggest facinations. I mean, I freak out when I am going over the speed limit and pass a cop on the side of the road, so how do these ppl kill over and over and over and walk around like nothing is going on??

I do like fictional works also. I am one of those ppl that can't just read the same type of thing all the time I like variety. I read news reports, parenting/baby mags, fictinal works, non-fiction crime and stuff but I absolutely will NOT read a romance novel. Porn, yes, romance NEVER. LOL

So do I need to send all these true crime novels to you, Dollar, as opposed to tkaing them in for credit at the used book store????? :deal: fish:

i too am deeply fascinated with criminal behaviour! we should totaly swap some books g/f, because i have heaps as well! also one of my absolute favourite topics is the JFK assassination!!!! I can't get enough of reading about the kennedy assassination. I love the confusion of it all, the secrets, the dozens of "eye witnesses" who each say the bullets came from different directions. Great topic to get in to.

I adore history of other countries, but never seem to be able to get into the history of Australia. Wonder why that is? It just doesn't interest me the slightest. Kinda sad really, because i love this country.

g/f, you should read the psychological text profiles on peadophiles. I read some books a while back and it was a very fascinating read.

I find myself starting lots of books, but many times don't get to the end, before i go and start yet another book.

I used to read a lot of books but that stopped around the time my first daughter was born. The reading I do now is to read articles in the paper and in magazines, as well a lot of internet articles. It's not that I don't have the time to read a book, but I'm too lazy to pick one up and start reading it. But once I start reading the book then I start getting into it.

I have a problem when I read books that they put me to sleep. My wife also has that effect on me when she talks to me in bed at night. So I have to be well rested in order to sit down and read a book. And if I am well rested, I am so wired that I don't feel like sitting down and reading or concentrating on a book.

In the last few years when I read books, what interested me was either engineering or physics books. I don't like fictional books.

what interested me was either engineering or physics books.

u know, i probably have mentioned this before :D but i emailed stephen hawking with some lame universe related questions after i read one of his books. It was exciting :D I was excited. He never replied, but i did get one of those "Thank-you for emailing. I will get back to you as soon as i can because i am busy etcetcetc" automated messages. I kept it saved for months lol.

i am a scientist although i disagree with them (not always) in stating that what is real is true
im into "both sides of the divide"
not a lot are
or they pick one or the other resusing anything of the other even when contrary in evidence
religion and science should be one
not one practice but in harmony
they changed some of the new translation or king james or whatever to match with newer comology and astronomy
some parts were not changed though

i would say but life is somewhat scientific
in "my religion" i would say i come to the conclusion that finding truth or whatever is based on evidence and experience and being able to recognise certain phenomena from certain intructions or measurement or awareness etc
habit
good habits bring good fruit
bad seeds?
but is a seed naturally bad?
some see to think so

i think the mind needs to read somethings to start with to be purified in our culture
in our information age and concept flying here and there it is good to see some things differently and investigate them deeper to see them for what they really are

the best books mix science and religion seamlessly

$girl what book did u read
i have read one but i forget the title
interesting ut im a dummy when it comes to science but i do like it

Criminal_sniper, i bought 3 of his books on ebay in a single lot, and took a particular liking to the most popular one being a brief history of time i think it's called.

cool
yeah he flew away i think too lol
something i will have to read again when i have polished up my math and science a bit
not to mention a little cosmology and astrology
then the physics of it all will all come into place
but it just do not see that as the end of the story
its trying to look within
if only they knew it

Read the bible. I recommend the Rainbow Study Bible NIV version. That's the new international version with easier to understand wording. It isn't written in the shakespearian type king's english.

i suggest learning Koine Greek and Ancient Hebrew and read the ancient scriptures and make ur own decision not the filtered one that has passed through the ages of man

the tree that made us fall was underestimated
we fail to tell the difference
that has many factor not worth going into
i agree that there are many great minds from boths sides
some are good to bad conclusions though also
Alexander and Hitler and mother Theresa and Ghenghis Khan all had greatness and something seperated them from doing what they did compared to what we all seem know is "good"
but all shared the same fate
death
reading is an awesome tool if developed well
there are some great cultures with great literary traditions
many great works so little time
gotta get quality not quanitity
