i'd like to thank everyone who helped me with my work dilema, and i have decided to follow ur advice about finding another job before i leave where i am working.

i have some job interviews lined up in the city on monday, and my resume was deleted when i lost my info on my computer earlier in the year.

does anybody have any ideas about a good resume layout? i'm looking for something really simple and direct. also i always have trouble writing a good objective, without it sounding common and repetative.

i'm excited!

:rebuke: dilemma has two Ms

My wife applied for some jobs which ask for resumes so she had some experience with them. I've attached a four-year old resume of hers. She gave me some tips to pass on to you.

Do you have Microsoft Office installed? I could get it for you if not. An alternative to that is OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org/). She recommends using one of the prexisting sample templates in Office as a reference point. Also, do not list your education first on the resume unless you are applying for an education position such as a teacher. List your work experience first. She said that you can also look at a site such as monster.com (http://content.monster.com/) for tips on resume writing.

Often the resume is a formality for a job. It's good you have interviews lined up. If you want to send me your resume I can have her look at it. She is a program coordinator and hires people at her work.

I'm glad you're looking for another job. I wonder what type of work you've looked in to and are applying to.

thanx dude. i dont have any real program except microsoft works which i am doing it in... but it just ain't the same as word. i had word come preinstalled on the computer but it was just a trail and it needs a product key.

i feel a bit scared to move on to another place of work. i feel like i am being disloyal, but i know it is something that needs doing.

i will do up a rough copy of my resume and i will send it to u via email

i'm just looking for another waitressing job... i figure i should go back to uni one of these days otherwise i will probably turn out to be a failure or something like everyone says.

i thought about studying social work at uni. i wanted to work with refugees or work with abused women... but i feel as though i am too emotional for that. i will always be bursting into tears, and that is not being a good role model.

Don't let that stop you from pursuing that line of work. You could get experience in that field even without getting a degree. Find an organization you like and maybe work part time for them or volunteer for them.

You can do a lot of different things besides being a waitress. Don't limit yourself to that field.

I've got a 626 MB file of Office XP which I will try to get to you in some form.

Eclectica, you are one cool dude! Dollar, the last line in your post says it all.
"I'm excited". Good luck to you.
One other thing. And this is not to patronize you in any way, but waitressing is a very important job. Any job is. Letters after a name, are good, but doesn't determine one's importance to other people. I'm sure the people you serve appreciate every little thing you do and say to/for them.

Was just thinking. They say simple. So you have a head start in that area. No colored paper or colored/fancy fonts. As few pages as needed. But there has to be something bold and that catches their eye right away, so they don't just toss it. I'm thinking this won't be such a worry, unless of course dozens of people are applying. I know this is a fact when a company is expecting many resumes at once. They flip through, tossing the ones in the garbage which look to complicated or are filled with junk, ie)too many pages or too long of wording. Just give them the basics, but be strong in your objective. I say be bold and blunt. I've read some of your posts and you write well and are head-strong and confident.
Just write like you already have the job. Make them believe that you are the best damn waitress there ever was and they'd be a fool not to hire you on the spot.

thanx all. i appreciate all the input! or is that imput? who knows! i put my work experience first, as i thought that was most important, and i put my education after that... i didn't write anything about my hobbies etc, coz i dont think anyone gives a damn... even tho i have seen HEAPS of resumes with shit like "i like to swim and dance and bushwalk on weekends".

then last off i put a summary... stating my current work and hours, and kinda why i would like to change jobs. i wrote something about working in a better environment etc.

thanx for the offer eclectica, we should figure out the best way to kick it my way. sixxgunnz had sent me office XP but i lost the product key. i do have the disk though! oh man i am so greatful to all the software he sent me, because i'm so computer dumb and it has helped me out so much! thanx man!!!!

shani once sent me soundforge and that kicked arse! but i lost a file that it needs and i can't reinstall it. if anyone has that one, we should get in touch!

hell yeah I am better then google, and I have a huge brain! I figure something needs to be huge on me :p

if you are having problems with ms office, you can always try OpenOffice.org v1.1.2 (http://download.openoffice.org/1.1.2/index.html), it is an opensource(free) office suite, works pretty good too.

maybe u should focus on getting in something much higher sometime down the track like working as waitress in a (high paying) restraunt
just not a rotating one
u would feel sick after some time

that would not go down well with customers

"You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him."

it's odd how this has become more indicative of me then it has any of you.

being is dirrerent from doing
doing assumes authority
being needs none

how can someone not do something to u?

like just missing getting hit by a car
even that makes difference
with everything there is something else

there is no nothing or something
just one " " that is not thing or not thing

why u think that in true love presence is everything
doing matters not

but if u mean getting u places or giving u stuff or teaching u or helping u in some way then ur simply wrong
there is noone that cannot do something dor someone
greed denies that mostly though

seems like taking care of the young chic was too much for the old geezer.

i'm happy for you that some good has come out of what you have gone through.

My boyfriend had a very serious nervous break down. The lead upto it was intense and very stressful and emotional. Sad thing is, not much has changed after what happened... he has no new burst of energy. He remains kinda depressed. I hope things change. I want him to be happy. With or without me, i just want him to be happy. I have faith in his kind nature, and i believe under all his anger and current attitude, that his kind heart is hybernating, but not lost forever. link (http://cazzoo.free.fr/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1915#1912)

and look at this she's claiming MISERY again after professing just how much 'in love' (you don't know what this means) she was.

that's so romantic! u two are just lovely. it makes me happy to know that there are people out there that are in love and content with their soulmate, like u two!!!

So many people i know say they don't believe in true love, i guess they havn't found their true love yet...

but neither have i, but i still believe!! i dont think i could be with someone who doesn't believe in head over heels love

believing is part of the romance i guess link (http://cazzoo.free.fr/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1899&highlight=#1899)

you know you couldn't make it work with me, mekajinn, tomas, or sixxgunnz either...i'd say its you gf.

300,000.00 AU would be 230,503.26 USD which is a fair bit of money, considering it would just buy u some dump in the suburbs. However, the suburbs are the best investments.

Cougar i have been to Cairns!!! I went there for a holiday... and omg i thought we had cane toad problems here... in Cairns, when i opened the door the whole lawn etc was just COVERED in them! they soooooooooo gross me out... when they try jumping away from you, they keep going untill they smash into something... all u hear are these horrible "thuds" when they jump into walls. eeeww!

I am in Logan... which is not too far from the gold coast... well u know... a small 40 minute drive!

I loved Carins when i went... there were wild mangos littered all over the streets... are they good to eat? i have a mango tree in the back yard, but the fruit bats usually take a bite out of each mango and then leave it to drop and rot in the ground. They also eat my paw paws!

and hey, banana bender just sounds so kinky :naughty:. maybe isntead of "smart state" we should have "naughty state" written on the car number plates

first she sez she's from Brisbane, now Kingston and now some place called Logan. well which is it?
